HIRANMOY WELCOMES YOU
MY STORY
Visual Artist. Designer. Conservator
I am a visual poetic artist, belonging to a farmer’s family from a small village of Panskura, West Bengal that drew me close to the beauty and tranquillity of life. Having grown up in the earthy environment of the countryside, my love for nature evolved naturally. The journey of my passion began by going through lots of difficulties and struggles of rural lifestyle. It was not easy for a child who had no experience of stepping on a train to travel 200 kilometers a day for study, on the other hand, I did not have the financial ability to study in a residential way. My surrounding society had no idea about art, not only that art could be a subject of study it was a problem somewhere in society to accept that. My interest into painting was cultivated during the stage of childhood and since then it continuously developed till all my growing years and encouraged me to pursue academics and degree in this field. I was also inspired by my elder brother, who also by profession was a village artist.
I have completed my Bachelor degree in Fine Art (BFA) from Rabindra Bharti University Kolkata and later pursued Masters’ degree in Museology from the same university. Presently, I am working as a Mount Designer at National Museum, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, New Delhi. I have been working for a long time beside my own art practice as well as local folk artist, artisan community, local heritage about their development and preservation.

ART WORK
As an artist I am fully drawn and devoted towards my passion art. I strongly believe “Language’s affective failings are compensated by artists through paintings”. My artworks are inspired and captivated by the boundless beauty of nature - meandering river of Kansabati, the colourful flower valley of Khirai, changing of seasons, brightness of the stars, fragrance of the rains, aroma of the flowers, moods and shades of the sky presents herself. By capturing the vistas of the countryside through the genre of landscape, it allows me to constantly explore new areas of this field to reflect the viewer to see nature in diverse ways. I see myself as “an observer and a critic”. My paintings document the panoramic view of the rustic world that portrays social and political prospects, cultural conflicts, and the up and downs of the rural life. Exploring the nostalgic links between my past and painting concludes in complimenting one another in scent and aesthetics.
In my oil paintings I use the rich colour tones that provides to deliver the paintings a strong physical presence of the countryside. The presence is enhanced by the elements of the rustic life - farmers and their pair of bullocks, the unfurling of marigold and flowers of mallika and the earthy fragrance of soil. I intend to bring forth the harmonious relationships that exist within the natural surroundings and my vision is simply to project the viewers an understanding of the relationship between humans and the natural world in a very uniquely expressive form.
